Brazilian pianist Ricardo Bacelar will release his latest solo album Congênito on August 5. Widely known for his work within the Jazz genre, his new recording is a blend of Pop, World, Jazz, and Fusion. It features classic Brazilian music by renowned Brazilian masters, including Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Djavan, Ivan Lins, Lenine, and others. All the songs are sung in Portuguese except for two in English, "She Walks" and "Preciso Perdoar."
Bacelar is proud of Congênito as it is his first recording which he self-produced and performed by himself, and only he and one recording engineer completed the entire project. He states, "All tracks are acoustic without loops, and I played all of the instruments and recorded them live without sequencers, programming, or drum machines."
Throughout the recording process, he learned of the difficulties of playing each instrument and combining them to sound like a cohesive ensemble. He states, "It's not easy to play all of the featured instruments. You have to imagine many people performing at once when you're playing, and you need to reserve space for other instruments. The secret is finding room because you must add other instruments and have them sound like one."
Congênito will be available on August 5 through his label Jasmin Records.
