Dixie D’Amelio has officially debuted the music video for her latest single, “Someone to Blame,” across MTV Live, MTVU, and MTV Biggest Pop. In a sign of how anticipated the release was, it also lit up the Paramount billboards in Times Square. The new video is expected to draw significant attention on YouTube over the coming days.
“Someone to Blame” is particularly notable because of the novel approach the popular social media star and singer-songwriter has taken by including fan-generated content. In an early July campaign that built hype for her new music video, D’Amelio invited people to use specific video creation templates and post the results.
The reaction from her fanbase was remarkable. Dixie’s publicists say that over 100,000 fans submitted content in the past few weeks in the hopes of being featured. The number of submissions shows there is huge, previously unmet, demand from fans of artists to be able to collaborate on their creations.
In the video, the selected fan-submitted footage is included seamlessly in scenes Dixie is watching on screens and through reflections in mirrors. It’s an innovative way for the singer to thank her fans for the loyal support they have given her.
The album itself, A Letter to Me, was released on June 10, with much fanfare. Two previous singles from the album have been released, “Wild” and the title song.
As part of the album’s promotional campaign, Dixie has spent much of the last few months on stage as part of Big Time Rush’s Summer Tour, with performances at major venues across the United States.
Her songs have amassed over 650 million streams since she signed with L.A. Reid's burgeoning record label, HitCo, as an 18-year-old. Dixie’s biggest hit, “Be Happy,” has over 300 million streams alone.
Beyond her music, Dixie is among the most recognizable faces on social media across the globe, with over 100 million subscribers across platforms. She is the tenth most followed person on TikTok and has won coveted awards such as a place in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. In the months ahead, she is set to feature alongside Marc, Heidi and Charli in the second season of The D’Amelio Show on Hulu.
