Kasabian claim their sixth UK Number 1 album with The Alchemist’s Euphoria this week.
The Leicester-born rock group, comprising Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews and Tim Carter, outsell their closest competition 2:1 with their seventh studio LP. The Alchemist’s Euphoria is the band’s first release to feature Sergio on lead vocals, following the departure of former frontman Tom Meighan in 2020.
With an impressive six Number 1 albums now under their belt, Kasabian pull level with British music icons including the likes of Pink Floyd, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Blur, Paul Weller, The Chemical Brothers and more, who all scored six chart-toppers apiece.
Previously, Kasabian reached the Official Albums Chart summit with Empire (2006), West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum (2009), Velociraptor (2011), 48:13 (2014) and For Crying Out Loud (2017). The Alchemist’s Euphoria also tops the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, shifting the most copies on wax this week.
Pale Waves also enjoy a new Top 5 entry this week with Unwanted, the group’s third studio album, landing at Number 4. The Mancunian indie-rock quartet, made up of Heather Baron-Gracie, Ciara Doran, Hugo Silvani and Charlie Wood, have previously enjoyed success with debut 2018 record My Mind Makes Noises (8) and 2021 LP Who Am I? (3). Unwanted also reaches Number 2 on this week’s Official Record Store Albums Chart.
Elvis Presley’s transcendent back catalogue continues to surge as Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic Elvis delights fans. His ELV1S – 30 Number 1 Hits collection, which topped the chart upon its release in 2002, re-enters the Top 10 for the first time since January 2003 (7). This week marks 45 years since the icon’s death.
Coldplay’s 2021 release Music of the Spheres vaults an impressive 133 places up the Official Albums Chart as the group bring their tour of the same name to the UK (23). Elsewhere, eight-piece South East London-formed ska group The Dualers score their second Top 40 LP with Voices From The Sun (26).
US producer Danger Mouse and Philadelphia-based hip-hop artist Black Thought’s first collaborative album Cheat Codes becomes Danger Mouse’s third and Black Thought’s first UK Top 40 appearance (28).
And finally, synth-pop icons Erasure secure their twentieth Top 40 album with Day-Glo (Based on a True Story) (29).
