Are you ready to discover your new favorite artist? Meet Lucid Kidd, a Lithuanian born-and-bred urban pop artist who just released once of the most promising debuts of the year, his 8-song ‘Falling To Grace’ EP, out now. Featuring his latest single “Smooth Sailing,” an unforgettable earworm about "the thin line between reality and dreams,” the EP heralds the arrival of an exciting new force in today’s pop music scene, inspired by artists like XXXTENTACION, Juice WRLD, and The Kid LAROI.

We spoke with Lucid about his upbringing in Lithuania, the process of recording his debut, and what he has in store for us in 2023. Read on below!

Lucid, you’ve exploded onto the scene over the past year. What has the experience of gaining notoriety in Lithuania and then in the US and beyond been like for you?

Hello, thank you for having me! At the beginning of my career, like more than 4 years ago, I used to get no attention, however throughout Lithuania it quickly increased, and I started doing shows and building a fan base. However, I never started creating music in Lithuanian which would have made me get more views, but I always had a vision to strive bigger and now I’m here, working and earning my way.

Tell us about how you got your start. When did you first know you wanted to be a musician?

I had a passion for music from a very young age, like 7, without even knowing it. I used to play this big piano at my grandma's house for hours, even though I had no idea how to properly play the piano, and I also used to take guitar lessons when I was around 8. I really enjoyed the freedom of music, I loved that there were no big rules for music, meaning I could play anything I wanted, which made me love it. My Dad used to play lots of Tupac, 50 Cent, Black Eyed Peas in the car when we were doing road trips, which definitely had an impact on me, however, probably the first time I started to listen to modern day rap was when my sister showed me XXXTENTACION “Look at me” in 2016. It was something so unique and raw that I never heard before and it got my interest. After that I started exploring Spotify and discovering so much new music and to many artists like Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, Lil Skies, J. Cole, Lil Uzi, etc. Then I got into production and finally started making songs.

We love your latest single “Smooth Sailing.” What was the inspiration behind the song? What kind of message are you trying to tell your fans with it?

First, I want people to just be able to vibe with a song, however, if we dig a bit deeper, this songs has the flow, where not only the lyrics say "smooth sailing" but the vocals themselves smooth sail on the beat, where the goal is to inspire the person to stop trying to control so many aspects of life because it will make you feel worthless, disappointed, and sad, and try to just let things be. In other words, let things be the way they are, embrace and learn from the bad that happened, enjoy the good and go with the flow like smooth sailing on the seven seas.

Tell us about ‘Falling To Grace’ as a whole. Is there a theme that underlies the full record?

“Falling to Grace” generally means that I am falling into something great, which is this flow, however I am not traveling physically to it but I'm rather doing it mentally. Falling is an action which is mostly done by accident and means a failure, meaning that the mistake that I made, made me fall or progress into something great. That is mostly all I would like to say, because I cannot tell people what they need to hear in this music or what is the message because they will hear whatever is relevant right now for their current emotional and mental state. If I could underline it on one theme it would be evolution.

What was the recording process of the new EP like?

First, some very funny context: the whole EP was created through Zoom calls, and with my equipment in my room back in Lithuania. It all dates back to a year and a half when I started working with different producers and writers, however I was artistically stuck as all artists experience, until I started working with Corey Chorus, which just fueled me with more creative energy. From that point the rest was history. I remember I used to work hard in my home studio on the EP, while all my friends were having fun on a summer evening, but I definitely felt happy putting it as my priority.

What are your plans for the coming year? Are any live tour dates in the works? Are there any artists that you would like to collaborate with?

I am really looking forward to the future. In the rest of the year you can
expect some features, and a couple crazy singles, also I plan to do a couple of shows. The new project is a work in progress. It will definitely be released in 2023. My goal is to evolve as an artist and person, which means that I will put in as much work as possible to make sure the upcoming project is different and my best one yet.
