New York-based singer-songwriter Nocturnne has released her debut single ‘Caroline’ - out now on all major streaming platforms.
A sweet blend of indie-folk and choral vocals that’s absolutely dripping in 60s nostalgia, the song is the story of a girl wandering alone in a forest and finding a spirit named Caroline. This protest pop pastiche sets a bucolic scene to paint a wider picture.
Nocturnne says that ‘On a deeper level, Caroline is a part of all of us; the part that is connected to the earth and to nature, the part that is left when we strip away technology and social obligations. The song is a reminder not to lose that part of ourselves and to reconnect with her’.
Cleveland-born Nocturnne, real name Natalie Kurgan, is a multi-instrumentalist with a PhD in engineering. Having been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos syndrome, a rare degenerative
genetic disease that affects connective tissue, after a 10 year battle with doctors, Kurgan feels she has unfinished business with music.

Alongside her music, Natalie runs successful hiking blog ADK Trails and Tails where she chronicles her journeys through the woods, mountains, and rivers of the American outdoors.
Her deep connection to the earth and outdoors is a direct influence on her songwriting. She tells us that she wants ‘to help people reconnect with their roots. Step away from technology, social media, all the garbage that floods our minds during every waking minute, and remember what is important.’ A message we can all get behind, we’re sure.
The song is a sonic illustration of the environmental concern felt by millions in the modern age. For a generation that looks at the future with concern there is a comfort in harking back to the sounds of an earlier time.
