Vistas have teased more of their third studio album with vibrant new single 'I Know I Know'.
Embedding itself firmly into a feel-good summer soundscape, 'I Know I Know' aches to be heard in festival fields, with saccharine vocals, pulsing percussion and soaring guitar riffs bursting from the seams of the song's core. Elaborating on the track the band say, "‘I Know I Know’ came from wanting to write something with big American pop energy and I think we got pretty close with this track. We wanted to try fit in as many hooks as we could so that any section of the tune could potentially get stuck in your head. It’s definitely the most summery and upbeat song from the record so felt right to put it out just before festival season and we’re really looking forward to playing this one across the next few months."
They continue, "The lyrics look at the dying flame of a relationship and questions why people make that period of time last so long and sometimes last forever. It definitely wasn’t what we set out to write about but the darker meaning of the song seemed to flow out naturally against the up-beat backing track. It’s the only relationship/love orientated song on the record and I think it fits nicely alongside the other tracks."
The Scottish trio’s third full length studio album 'Is This All We Are?' will be released on 15th September 2023 and follows swiftly on from the acclaimed ‘The Beautiful Nothing’ EP (Is Right Records) released at the start of the year. Kickstarting a new era for Vistas, bringing heavier elements into play that gloriously played off the breezy, euphoric staples of their two critically lauded albums, ‘Is This All We Are?’ as a body of work picks up the baton from where the most recent EP left off as the band hurtle towards esteemed festival slots at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.
Recorded at Kempston Street Studios in Liverpool in December of 2022 and produced by Rich Turvey, the environment of a brand new studio gave the band a fresh burst of energy when it came to laying down the tracks as they also made a conscious effort with this album to strip away any unnecessary details that didn’t serve the music. What happened as a result is the band’s most confident body of work to date as the trio navigate their way through love, loss and life’s big questions.
Explaining ‘Is This All We Are?’ In more depth, frontman Prentice Robertson says: “During the writing of both the EP and album, one of my family members became very ill and this became all encompassing in mine and my families’ lives. This led to many conversations about the fragility and meaning of someone’s life and where they go and what they leave behind after they are gone. As these subjects were so dominating in my thoughts, they became the central theme of the album. I think the title sums up these themes as a whole by asking ‘is this all we are?’.”
“In our previous records I feel like the subjects of the songs were a bit more broad and with this record I tried to make things more specific. There are tracks about why people can be cruel, tracks about losing someone, tracks about how unfair life can be and tracks that question what the meaning of our time on earth is,” he continues.
