The Red Pears make their long-awaited return with new music with their single “The Way You Talk” out Tuesday, July 11th. Their latest, and first single since last year's LP You Thought We Left Because The Door Was Open But We Were Waiting Outside, comes ahead of their headlining performance at Viva! Pomona Festival on July 15th and supporting role for Interpol during their Los Angeles stop at the Greek Theater this Fall.
While a new composition, The Red Pears remain devoted to their trademark fuzzed out, garage rock roots by keeping their recording in the confines and comfort of their homes. Marking the first release produced in their new home recording studio, the band explored new freedoms in sound and production sans limitations of studio time.
The single reinvigorates their roiled guitars and thudding drum staccatos, as the lyricism explores the complexity of a relationship gone awry. Tailing the experience of confused emotion that comes with broken trust, the song travels through the ruminating sentiments when no longer recognizing a person once known so well. Navigating whether to choose reactive aloofness or proactive resentment, the song narrates a two way street where neither party gives in, and neither party wins - all that remains is the sharp moment of contemplating the feelings of fight or flight upon hearing their voice.
The cover art correlates to the song's depth, demonstrating how conflicting states of being can live in harmony and coexist at the same time. From colorful wildflowers to the contrasting black and white forests, lives a lone wolf with an open ended story. Was its lone journey chosen or inflicted? Exiled or seeking something different? The visual representation helps narrate the story of emotional perception and how different it can look depending on who's viewing the scene.
On the inspiration behind the song, The Red Pears share: “You are the wolf. Its rigid, red eyed stare represents a hunter, capable of a fierce attack at any second, yet its body language is calm. While in this state, you come across a person in the woods slowly start to creep up, just like resentment can in a relationship. Would you confront them or remain the same?”
The Red Pears will be debuting its live rendition for the first time at this year's Viva! Pomona Music Festival on Saturday, July 15th. Returning for the first time since their appearance in 2018, they take the stage again this time as the festival's main headliners. A celebration and testament to their recent growth trajectory in the last years, they join the events inimitable alumni headliner ranks to the likes of The Marias, Surf Curse, Eyedress, Thee Oh Sees, Shannon and The Clams, Chicano Batman and Jean Dawson to name a few.
Also recently announced, is the band's upcoming tour support for legendary New York Indie Rockers Interpol during their Los Angeles stop at The Greek Theater in October.
