Bugzy Malone returns with new single 'Lean'
19 November 2023
Manchester’s powerhouse rapper Bugzy Malone is back with new single, ‘Lean’.
With the beat tapping classic, early ‘00s East Coast hip-hop sounds for inspiration, Bugzy delivers punchy, say-it-with-your-chest verses with trademark swagger, cutting in-and-out of the track’s hook in suave, nonchalant style.
‘Lean’ – released on the heels of recent single ‘Mrs Lonely’ – also drops alongside a lavish official video shot on location in Dubai, co-directed by Emmanuel Boadie and Bugzy himself. A toast to the high life, it captures Bugzy in leave-your-worries-at-the-door party mode, shot against a backdrop of supercars, clubs and infinity pools, as well as some of Dubai’s iconic landmarks and fabled nighttime views.
Marking a return to his brand of hard-hitting, hook-friendly rap, ‘Lean’ lands as the latest in a series of new Bugzy Malone singles, with more on the horizon as he looks to 2024.
‘Lean’ follows the UK Top 10 success of ‘Out Of Nowhere’ with Teedee – Bugzy’s highest charting single to date – and more broadly, 5x UK Top 10 albums, including 2021’s ‘The Resurrection’, which peaked at #7 on the UK Albums Chart only a year after Bugzy was seriously injured in a quadbike accident.
Elsewhere, Bugzy Malone has also collaborated with everyone from Dizzee Rascal to Aitch to Chase & Status, as well as former rival, Chip, and even branched out into acting; he featured in both Guy Ritchie’s 2019 blockbuster, ‘The Gentleman’ and 2023 spy comedy, ‘Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre’, alongside Hugh Grant, Jason Statham and Aubrey Plaza.
