After debuting his first album titled
Winds of Change last November, Allen Kai-Lang Yu is proud to release his second album
Hidden Passage March 8, 2024.
The album consists of a collection of twelve piano solos and, like his first album, is the fruit of a collaboration with pianist Victor Hugo Morales. Allen titled this album "Hidden Passage" to reflect back on how he started composing when still in high school.
“When I first started composing music, the process felt like opening doors to a secret heavenly passage leading to a lake surrounded by a magnificent forest in autumn. This was how I imagined my refuge, where I'd feel for and make up music.”
Allen hopes this album will also start in his listeners their own journey to places that intrigue and amuse.
As in his first album, each song stands on its own: Allen and Victor have invested full emotions and expressiveness into each piece. Beautiful, warm melodies and harmonies are the essence of their releases.

Here is a little description of each of the twelve tracks in this album.

Magic Zither: the magical crystalline texture of this piece appropriately kicks off this album, elucidating a wondrous passage to a heavenly world.

Tender Gaze: the warm theme of this song makes for a tender love song.
3.
Midnight Spirit: a powerful emotional piece with echoes that hark back to the great Romantic Age of Beethoven and Liszt. Allen composed this slightly after midnight one day when he was emotionally upset. “I intended to bang the piano, but right as I was about to play, I felt something different...”

Hidden Lake: a tender song evoking a magical lake full of life: lush green forest, jovial spirits and talking animals all mixed in one.

Celebrations!: a celebratory happy song!
6.
Storm After: a song about walking peacefully in a forest or prairie breathing in fresh air after a big storm.
7.
The Lion: a powerful flamenco dance arranged and performed in classical Spanish style.
8.
Flight: a simple delicate theme that evokes images of flying.
9.
The High Plateaus: a song inspired by the great mountains and high plateaus around the world.
10.
Angels Rising: Allen imagines peaceful angels rising up to the heavens from a quiet lake and forest in early morning for this piece.

Safe Passage: a piece about feelings of safety and security after a great tempest.
12.
Starlight Reverie: imagine sitting under starlight skies dreaming about the Universe and life's magic and mysteries.
