Rising UK based rapper Tom Penny has dropped his latest album ‘Both Sides Of The Coin’. The album is heavily inspired by Tom’s experiences with introspection, self reflection and personal growth. "The story behind this project tackles my journey with addiction and learning to control my vices to appreciate real love" he says.
With a lifelong passion for storytelling, Tom Penny’s love for hip-hop was ignited at the age of 16, where he began freestyling which fueled his devotion to rapping. Tom shares "Writing how I feel is the best form of therapy for me, turning some of my darkest moments into music.” Taking influence from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Loyle Carner and J Cole, his unique sound and storytelling style echoes the works of these artists.
The title track ‘Both Sides Of The Coin’ showcases his distinct lyrical style and vocal prowess, blending authenticity with a contemporary sound. His vocal performance on this track is compelling, characterised by his confident delivery and unique tone.The overall vibe of the track is both gritty and polished, balancing hard-hitting beats with smooth melodic elements.
The album features a mixture of upbeat fast paced lyricism as well as slower melodic rhythms. Featured track ‘Fiya Fiya’ has seen great success so far across Spotify. Taking influence from the grime scene, this track reflects feelings of self empowerment and taking control of situations in your life. ‘End Of The Road’ encapsulates an emotional feel compared to other songs on the album conveying sensitivities that rise at the start of a relationship.
The rising rapper recently showcased his upcoming album ‘Both Sides Of The Coin’ at The Forge, London where he invited his fanbase down to an exclusive listen. “It’s very personal at times but tells a story I think a lot of people can relate to and hopefully enjoy.” Tom says, in the hopes that this album can resonate with listeners and allow people to open up and express themselves.
