The track is a powerful post-break-up song with a new twist that will resonate with millions. The lyrics turn heartbreak into a powerful vision of the future, all overlaid on an irresistibly up-beat music track with unforgettable hooks.
Talia's vocals are rich, empowering and fuelled with raw emotion as she belts out the lyrics, “You made your bed – now lie in it !”, with May’s period-style tremolo guitar licks providing responses to every chorus line. He also takes a landmark 16 bar solo in the same style.
The tune is lively and irresistibly catchy - an uplifting pop song that instantly inspires us all to run faster, dance harder and sing out.
Talia Dean says:
"I see this song as a firm reminder that the world is a huge place with a population of 8.2 billion. Nobody should never stay in a relationship with a person who treats you badly.
Know your worth.
It’s better to stay single than with a person who doesn’t respect you.
No matter what age you are, where you are in the world, or what your situation is - it's NEVER too late to break free and strive for happiness.
In recent times I’ve come to realise that I deserve love, attention and respect. I put up with toxic behaviour longer that I should have.
I deserve to be with someone who cherishes me and so do you.
Live your life and strive for true love. It’s defiantly out there.”
Brian May says:
I see this track as a very important marker in Talia’s career. It’s as if, in this song, she's shaking off not just a relationship, but a whole way pf life which she no longer wants to live. She and I are already working in the exciting new territory which this song predicts. But for now, this is song packed with pure naughtiness and fun, and makes me smile every time I hear it.
Talia Dean is a rare talent who rose to fame as a finalist on X-Factor in 2017. Her deep, expressive vocals and unapologetically strong yet vulnerable persona quickly caught the attention of Brian May. Impressed by her artistry, he took the emerging singer-songwriter under his wing, and the two have been collaborating on musical projects ever since.
THE MUSIC VIDEO shot in Surrey’s lux store, Cobham Furniture
The music video opens with police pounding on the door of a house in the early hours, demanding that the owner, “Mr. May”, open up and "turn the music down." Inside, a scene of disarray: hungover bodies sprawled across the bed and floor, stirring groggily after what was clearly a wild night. The house’s owner is revealed as none other than Sir Brian May, clinging sheepishly to a childhood teddy bear, while the protagonist, Talia Dean, slumped on the floor, rises to her knees in a lavish, sequinned party dress. The bed belonging to “Mr May” has a space duvet and there’s a large Jimi Hendrix poster on the wall, personally selected by Brian May for his imagined bedroom. Brian also elected for his 9 stack Vox amps to feature in the bedroom - this is the iconic amp stack that he takes on every Queen tour!
The narrative flashes back to 24 hours earlier, showing Talia bursting with attitude and confidence as she strides down the street, microphone in hand, singing "I feel so good... I'm alive" after walking away from a toxic relationship. The video continues to jump between past and present, depicting scenes of the breakup: Talia confronting her ex-lover, arguments, and packing up her possessions, ready to break free. Throughout, Mr May is shown playing his legendary red special guitar back in his bedroom.
In a bar scene, Talia, dressed glamorously in a faux fur coat, sips whiskey while her desperate ex-lover tries in vain to win her back. The energy picks up as she dances her way into the future, exuding a sense of playful empowerment. The video culminates in Mr. May's bedroom, where Talia and her entourage dance around the bed while he plays guitar, bringing the story full circle.
