Musician Jo Hill (Debut album: ‘girlhood’) who has been one of the facilitators working with young refugees and asylum seekers said:

"This has been the most inspiring project I have ever been be part of. Watching the young people’s confidence grow week by week has been incredible and to see them reach the point where they can get up on stage and perform for the first time has been just incredible. Compass really are a revolutionary collective!”

Compass Collective assists unaccompanied minor refugees and young people seeking asylum to build resilience and integrate into the UK through theatre, music and film projects and arts-led professional development programmes. The aim of our work is to strengthen communities, build resilience and help people seeking sanctuary integrate into the UK. We support approximately 500 young people aged 14-26, from over 28 locations in the UK. The majority are at their initial stage of immigration. 70% are unaccompanied minors.

Speaking about the music projects the young people who participated said::

“The thing I learnt is that when you work together as a team, with love you are gonna be successful… and I think we have a beautiful song because we worked together ”

“I would like to continue doing music. Music is my life”

“I would love my voice to go out. I think there are a lot of things you can say using your music. There is a lot you can say out to the world in music .”

Artistic Director of Compass Collective, Leah Gayer, said:

“We know that the young people we work with love making music and have a real appetite to create and perform. This event will be a chance for them to showcase their talents and also a really important opportunity for us to raise the vital funds we need to continue doing this kind of work. We’ve had so much support from musicians already and we are very excited to make new connections and bring more people on board. ”
