Lanarkshire’s own 4-piece band Auld White Label are releasing their new EP Tangents on 31/1/25. The first song on the EP is the lead single, Chapter 1.
This avant-garde single kicks the EP off as its opening track – drawing audiences into a project like no other. Rooted in an industrial sound, Chapter 1 flirts with low, echoing, chopped up vocals, swirling synths and a pounding snare drum to make for a hypnotic experience that will lure audiences in to examine the craft in its richly textured layering and shuffling groove.
The Tangents EP is characterised in part by its central theme of death and rebirth. All 4 songs are equally strong and engaging. Its sound travels between a variety of genres – shoegaze, electronica, synthwave, and IDM – reinforcing the idea of the project, that life never really ends, only changes its form. Its cover artwork captures this in a single image of an abstract painted mushroom.
The project’s varied and hypnotic sounds lends itself in no small part to the EP’s unique writing process. Each member of the band penned a track themselves, and then brought them together as a group. This experiment in group composition amplifies Auld White Label’s unique sound that sets them apart from other bands operating in more traditional forms of a genre work.
Auld White Label are a group that have defied the odds to reach where they have today. Reformed on the cusp of lockdown, the band have since released two concept albums to strong reviews and contributed their song ‘Quiet the Sea Change’ to the charity album Northern Strangers, where all proceeds were donated to the charity Scottish Action for Mental Health.
Tangents will be available across all platforms. It was recorded, mixed and mastered my Andy Miller (Mogwai, Songs: Ohia, Life Without Buildings) at Garglblast Studios in Hamilton near Glasgow.
