Grammy-winning musical phenomenon Jacob Collier will perform with a UK orchestra for the first time in January 2025, when he joins forces with the 50-piece orchestra Britten Sinfonia for two unmissable concerts.
Collier will be joined by fellow Grammy Award winner Chris Thile – the virtuoso mandolinist, singer, and songwriter – and acclaimed conductor Suzie Collier, Jacob’s mother and guiding light, and former teacher of Britten Sinfonia’s leader, Thomas Gould.
A remarkable, eclectic programme and supercharged charisma on stage will forge a riveting experience for audiences in Bristol’s Beacon Hall and London’s Barbican Hall.
“I can’t think of a better way to kick off the year than to collaborate with some of my most treasured humans on the planet” says Jacob Collier. “To be performing with the Britten Sinfonia under the baton of my wonderful mother Suzie Collier, alongside one of my oldest friends, leader Thomas Gould, with my partner in crime and musical soul brother Chris Thile, is mighty special for me. This programme is a one-off, full of energy and joy - I can’t wait to throw all the musical paint possible for these two unforgettable shows.”
A wide range of favourite songs by Collier and Thile will be heard symphonically for the first time, alongside big-boned orchestral showstoppers by Anna Meredith (her electro-classical dance hit Nautilus) and Arturo Márquez (Danzón No. 2), solo Bach from Thile, Piazzolla’s ‘Spring’ from Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, and two concerto movements by Bach and Barber with Collier and Thile as soloists. No Collier appearance would be complete without an audience choir experience, Jacob’s global audience conducting phenomenon which has had fans singing across the globe, and was memorably documented recently at Glastonbury festival and at the BBC Proms.
This collaboration is deeply personal, uniting Jacob and Suzie Collier, Chris Thile, and Thomas Gould’s Britten Sinfonia in a rare convergence of family, friendship and extraordinary artistry.
