Obongjayar is back with big news—his highly anticipated sophomore album Paradise Now is set for release on May 30 via September Recordings. Alongside the album announcement, the genre-blending artist has dropped a brand-new single, "Sweet Danger," accompanied by a visually striking video.
The 15-track album promises to be Obongjayar’s most personal work yet, blending elements of electro-pop, soul, and afrobeats. Produced in London and LA with an impressive lineup of collaborators—including Kwes Darko (Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem), Beach Noise (Doja Cat), and Yeti Beats—Paradise Now takes listeners on a deep dive into themes of self-acceptance, transcendence, grief, and the unpredictability of life. Notably, the album features just one guest artist, Obongjayar’s longtime collaborator, Little Simz, on the track "Talk Olympics."
To celebrate the album reveal, Obongjayar has released the flirty and infectious "Sweet Danger." The track showcases his signature fusion of sultry guitars, syncopated percussion, and brassy fanfare, as he sings with playful confidence: "Heard you like the bad boys, yeah I’m a bad boy, can’t stop, won’t stop.” The accompanying video, directed by Sophie Jones, captures the raw chaos of life through a cinematic, POV-style shoot featuring a cast of eccentric characters in a seedy South London hotel, all while Obongjayar rides a mechanical bull—a wild metaphor for life’s unpredictable nature.
In addition to the album, Obongjayar has announced a nine-date UK/EU tour this November, with stops in Berlin, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, and London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 11.
With his unique fusion of sounds and thought-provoking storytelling, Obongjayar continues to cement his place as one of the UK’s most thrilling contemporary voices.
