Elton John & Brandi Carlile’s brand-new collaboration album Who Believes In Angels? starts the week ahead to top the Official Albums Chart.
Produced by noted pop hitmaker Andrew Watt, it’s the first LP on which Sir Elton and Carlile, one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of her generation, have worked on fully together.
Who Believes In Angels? is now looking to become the landmark 10th UK Number 1 album for Elton John, and the first chart-topping record for Carlile, who has never reached the UK Top 40 as a solo artist before.
Acclaimed British indie-rock band Black Country, New Road are on track for the highest-charting album of their career with Forever Howlong, their third studio album. The Mercury Prize-nominated collective previously reached the Top 10 with 2021’s For The First Time (4) and 2022’s Ants From Up There (3).
US alt-pop touchstone Ethel Cain could be a surprise new entry in the UK Top 10 today. Her 2022 debut album Preacher’s Daughter (4) has attracted a legion of devoted fans for its richly-imagined tale of Southern Gothic horror, and thanks to a new physical re-issue, it could enter the Official Charts for the first time ever.
Rounding out the Top 10 this week, we could have the debut album of Smith/Kozen, a duo composed of Iron Maiden’s Adrian Smith and Winery Dogs’ Richie Kotzen. Black Light/White Noise is currently expected to bow at Number 9.
The Miki Berenyi Trio – lead by former Lush member Miki Berenyi – could see their debut collection as a group, Tripla debut at Number 12. As a member of Lush, Berenyi previously two Top 10 albums and a further four UK Top 40 singles.
Scottish-Irish folk group The Waterboys could see their 16th LP Life, Death and Dennis Hopper enter at Number 17, becoming their 11th Top 40 collection.
Further down, former pop teen idol Chesney Hawkes could secure only the second UK Top 40 LP of his career (and his first since 1991) with sixth album Living Arrows (32). Hawkes famously topped the Official Singles Chart for five weeks aged just 19 in 1991 with The One and Only.
Djo (aka Stranger Things actor Joe Keery) could send his third album The Crux to Number 33 this week, becoming Keery’s first Top 40 album.
Finally, Tracy Chapman’s 1988 self-titled debut album could re-enter the Top 40 (39) for the first time in 11 years thanks to a new vinyl reissue to celebrate its 35th anniversary.
