Orla Gartland drops surprise single 'Now What?' ahead of North American tour
15 April 2025
Orla Gartland has surprised fans with a brand new single, “Now What?”, which premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record and is out now on all streaming platforms. The track is set to appear on the forthcoming extended edition of her critically acclaimed second album Everybody Needs A Hero, released last October via her own label, New Friends.
Coming hot on the heels of her biggest UK and Ireland tour to date—featuring sold-out shows at London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum and Dublin’s iconic 3Olympia Theatre—Gartland is showing no signs of slowing down. She kicks off a major North American headline tour on April 20 in Toronto, wrapping up May 16 in Portland, before heading back across the pond for a newly announced performance at Glastonbury Festival and a summer packed with festival dates, including Lollapalooza and Outside Lands. She’ll also support Glass Animals on a string of U.S. shows in August.
“Now What?” is a reflective, emotionally charged exploration of post-breakup uncertainty, written during a period of personal upheaval. “Last year I experienced some big life changes,” Gartland shared. “I felt more unravelled and pensive than any other time in my adult life.” Lyrics like “maybe I will cook for you and your new wife / and think about the time where I was hanging on for life” illustrate her raw, introspective songwriting at its finest.
Everybody Needs A Hero solidified Gartland’s place as one of alternative pop’s most compelling voices. Known for her sharp lyrical honesty and angular, indie-pop sound, the Dublin-born, London-based artist produced much of the record herself, working alongside longtime collaborators Tom Stafford and Peter Miles at Middle Farm Studios in Devon.
With its themes of self-discovery, vulnerability, and strength, Everybody Needs A Hero captures the complex process of redefining oneself within—and beyond—the boundaries of a relationship.
As Gartland continues her global rise, “Now What?” marks the beginning of a new chapter—one that promises even deeper introspection and louder expression.
