An interview with DAZE (aka Daisy Finetto)

If you’ve recently heard the ridiculously catchy single by 19Hundred called ‘Oh Boy’ you might have also picked up on the fact that it features the vocals of the ubiquitously hip DAZE (aka Daisy Finetto). Daisy shot to success as the feisty frontwoman of Mausi and her collaboration with the somewhat enigmatic 19Hundred is her first step towards a solo career.
We caught up with DAZE for a quick chat…

Music News: Tell us about your current projects?

DAZE: I spent 5 years in a band, doing everything through a filter of what fitted that sound. Now, I am at a point where I have the freedom to find my sound and collaborate with producers and musicians that inspire me- it's refreshing.

So that's what I'm doing, getting inspired, meeting new people, creating and having fun doing it.

MN: What are you listening to at the moment?

DAZE: I listen to what inspires me. Right now, I am listening to D'Angelo in an old woman's flat in Budapest.

I'm not a music snob, I listen to anything that makes me feel good, this morning I was listening to a woody Allen soundtrack and maybe later I will listen to Honne or PartyNextDoor or Lion Babe

MN: How did the collaboration with 1900 come about?

DAZE: It came from like-minded people wanting to go back to making good music and focusing on the craft again rather than the fluff that normally surrounds releases.

MN: And tell us about the track you've recorded with them?

DAZE: It's called 'Oh Boy'. A boss dance track that will make you want to throw some shapes deep in to the night before you end up at Super Kebab in Dalston, sweaty, alone and knee deep in doner meat.

But beyond that, It's about being manipulated by people you trust, who have promised you everything and them spinning you round in circles. It's not necessarily about a dysfunctional boy/girl relationship, but about distrust and exiting an unhealthy headspace.

MN: Any touring plans?

DAZE: At the moment I am just creating all the time. Music, design, photography. I want to make music I love and If people love it too, I will play it for them.

MN: And finally, do you have a favourite Italian restaurant in London?

DAZE: There is an abundance of Italians in London. Which should mean there should be so many dope restaurants. So far I have only found one that I love. Ombra. Just an honest little place, looks like a simple bar with plastic chairs outside, in Cambridge Heath.

I was taken there on a date once and I fell in love with the food- but not the guy. They make their own pasta and have amazing meats and the menu changes every day. The head chef is such a boss, he's all swagged out and looks like and urban pirate. I'm in to it.
