Vintage Trouble exploded on to the stage at the Forum with Ty Taylor and Nalle Colt leading the charge. The audience were suitably gobsmacked and for the next hour and twenty minutes the Taylor spun, tippy-toed, walked on the audience and generally did everything a soul showman is supposed to do – that his voice is so fine is almost icing on the cake.
Ty Taylor is a superb and eye catching lead singer but he needs a kickass band to do him justice and in guitarist Malle Colt, bass player Rick Barrio Dall and drummer Richard Danielson he has exactly the kind of musicians who can explode or play with subtlety with ease.
But the focus is on Taylor. He has moves that would make James Brown proud and a vocal that brings to mind both Sam Cooke and Otis Redding and when he leapt into the press pit and out into the audience or dropped to his knees in supplication the quality of his vocals never dropped an ounce.
The setlist runs through all three of their albums, with a couple of new numbers as well (‘Turn The Sky Blues’ is superb)and the packed crowd were in raptures from ‘Run Like The River’ through to ‘Nancy Lee’.
A brilliant band on record but live, man that’s sumpin’ else.

The night opened with Slydigs who I hadn’t heard before but their brand of rock and Blues really hit the spot. They have been opening for The Who recently and their punch and sleazy demeanour is just about spot on.
