Voodoo Radio are a father/daughter duo who hail from Cumbria. Singer/drummer Paife and her guitarist father Tony have recently set tongues wagging with the vibrant punk driven sounds. Having caught the attention of both Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson, it is far to say that this dynamic duo are well on their way to achieving a more mainstream success. With their debut album, Pop Pills, now readily available, can they make the jump from critical acclaim to commercial success.
The eight track album is very suitably titled. Fuelled by feisty pop punk nuggets, it is a truly addictive listen that boasts relentless energy, anthemic choruses and head-banging beats. Infectious doesn't come close to describing the impassioned release, which will have you hitting the repeat button on whatever platform you choose to listen to it upon.
While the bop Eat Your Words is possibly the most repetitively addictive of the listening experiences, it is in the more retro driven vibes of the B-52s meets Transvision Vamp meets Shampoo drive of Space Girl that the duo have the most commercial potential. That being said, there is no denying that Pretty Boy is the collection's stand out moment.
Voodoo Radio may only have eight songs on their mini album, but each one is golden. Let's just hope the next release is even more explosive and just a little longer.
