Dave Mason & Joe Bonamassa

Dave Mason was the original guitarist with Traffic and so was responsible for the original song, one of the most popular numbers by the band.

This version, featuring Joe Bonamassa, has much of the soul of the original but has a very much more punchy and dynamic presentation.
Bonamassa’s vocals are not dissimilar from Stevie Winwood’s original, but the guitar lines are cleaner and there is a stronger sense of groove – the original was delightfully loose, but it gains from being tightened up some.

This new version does lose some of the ‘druggy’ feel of the original, but it may well be that that dates it more than this.
