Norwegian alternative rock band, Seigmen have been making music since the 90's and scored two Number 1 albums within that decade. I am honoured to be reviewing their latest single, as they are back on the scene with brand new music for the first time since 2016! 'Berlin' is their first track from the band's upcoming album, "Resonans". Their single is already out and their album will be released on 12 April 2024.

'Berlin' is a triumph. The track starts with a rolling drum intro that sounds like Something Corporate's 'Punk Rock Princess'. It leans into a hefty bassline and perfectly-cut harmonic guitar, all of which culminates into an ubiquitously dark and atmospheric post-punk sound (think Joy Division meets Editors). Tension is built into the track with ambient pauses, which drives a feeling of immense pace. Throughout the track, the interplay of the bass, harmonised guitar with snare-centric rhythms makes you feel like you're powering along with them. It's a hell of an introduction to their forthcoming album. If you loved early Interpol, 'Berlin' is for you. Even the vocals have a gravelly Paul Banks tone to them.

In 1979, Martin Hannett (Producer) once described Joy Division as "dancing music with Gothic overtones”. NME defined Editors as “dark disco”. Both of those descriptions draw similarities to 'Berlin'. I plan on playing this on repeat, until their album comes out.
