Cornish actor and musician, Sam Palladio has released his debut album 'The Perfect Summer’s Day, Before We Lost The Light' through the Battery Rocks label. If you’re not familiar with Sam, he is absolutely crushing it in the States! He has a penchant for the country sound and is best known for his starring role as Gunnar Scott in musical drama series Nashville.

Influenced heavily by Americana and Country music, you can hear its distinctive nuances throughout the 40-minute run time. Catchy and lyrically punchy, the opening track is 'Meanwhile in London' kicking off the album with a heft of emotion and heartbreak. From the get-go, we can hear he has a heart of a country singer and the song writing skills to prove it. The album has a sincerity to it, as he sings about longstanding country song themes of love and loss.

Written by Sam and Ed Harcourt, 'Tennessee' is an ode to Sam’s move into the Nashville country space as an actor. It features lead guitar by Chris Shiflett from the Foo Fighters and has a distinctive edginess to it - sounding similar to Royal Blood without being libellous. The fast-paced pop-infused 'Tears in the Carpark' has an 80’s feel to it, which lingers around in the easy-listening epic 'Something on My Mind'. There is a slight mood change with 'Spill Your Heart' (feat. Simon Neil), as it’s downright sexy and sultry. Featuring another collaboration, this time, with Biffy Clyro’s lead vocalist. Having been on tour together, Sam supported Biffy Clyro and Simon Neil joined Sam on stage at London’s Eventim Apollo in 2023.

Summery pop anthem 'Gone Like the Summer' was co-written with Kaiser Chiefs’ drummer Nick Hodgeson and races along. 'SMF' is proudly profane in an innocent way. The humour is subtle and, like the song, carries a light whimsical energy to it. In contrast to the instantly impactful, 'B.O.A.T.' providing us with a healthy dose of alt-rock anarchy. Sam has us moving energetically along with the same vigour and veracity, as early-2000’s post-punk band Franz Ferdinand. Bringing the energy down a tad, 'Bullet for Your Love' has a vastly cinematic Bastille feel to it. As we come to the end of the album with a couple of twang-tastic country sounding songs on 'Jenni' and 'Wake Me up in Nashville', Sam regales us about escaping - “I think I’m going to drown if I stay in this town” - to live out your dreams.

As his first studio release, Sam Palladio has created a grand-sounding country pop album. If you can, try and check him out live at Omeara in London on 30 September 2024.
