09 November 2024
The last time that Iron Maiden performed in Massachusetts was on October 17, 2022. The show was so intense that night, that the manic energy they created that evening was still in the air when they returned two years later. Iron Maiden performed at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts (USA) on November 2, 2024.
After a really cool 45-minute set from The WU, Iron Maiden attacked the stage with "Caught Somewhere in Time" and "Stranger in a Strange Land". It was during the latter that the band's huge mascot, Eddie, made his first, albeit brief, appearance of the night.
Still sporting the band's classic lineup of Bruce Dickinson (vocals), Steve Harris (bass), Dave Murray (guitar), Adrian Smith, (guitar), Nicko McBrain (drums) and longtime member, Janick Gers (guitar), the band shined all night.
While a lot of familiar Iron Maiden songs filled the night, newer cuts as "The Writing on the Wall," "Days of Future Past," "The Time Machine" and "Death of the Celts" (all from the 2021 disc, "Senjutsu") blended flawlessly alongside classic group cuts as "The Prisoner" and "Can I Play With Madness".
While Iron Maiden is the epitome of '80s metal, they do add a bit of drama to their set.
After a phenomenal version of "Can I Play With Madness", Eddie returned to the stage once again (during "Heaven Can Wait") with a costume that appeared to be a version of "The Terminator", as he and Dickinson had a mock-onstage shootout.
Other highlights of the night were a phenomenal take of "Alexander the Great" (from their 1986 disc, "Somewhere in Time") and the massively underrated "Fear of the Dark" (from the 1992 album of the same name).
The band, all well into their 60s, have not lost a bit of their onstage energy. And while some bands are, allegedly, using backing tracks and autotune, Dickinson's voice is still a powerhouse.
After an epic take of the song "Iron Maiden" ended the set, the house lights appeared to go on as if the show had ended.
That fear was short-lived, as Iron Maiden returned for a three-song blitzkrieg with "Hell on Earth", "The Trooper" and "Wasted Days". Dickinson promised the crowd that the band would be back in two years.
2026 cannot get here quickly enough!
