There are a lot of Blues artists who play a bit of harmonica alongside their vocals, but very few who play it as a proper lead instrument, and even fewer who can play as well as Will Wilde. Add to that, he is a superb vocalist and wrote all the 10 songs on this album.
He has assembled a fine band behind him, including the seasoned talents of Steve Rushton (Imelda May, Jeff Beck) on drums, Greg Coulson on keys, Bobby Harrison on guitar, and Russell Carr on bass. Backing vocals are supplied by Chloe & Lindsay from Brave Rival and his sister Dani, three of the best in the British scene today.
Will produced the album, it was Engineered by Ali Gavan at Brighton Road Studio and Mixed and Mastered by Wayne Proctor at House Of Tone Productions.
Walter Trout is brought in to play lead on the title track and he delivers a scorching solo.
It all is a real, classic, Blues/Rock album. Superb riffs and a steaming rhythm section, but the heart of it all is Wilde’s coruscating harmonica playing and heartfelt Blues vocals.
Wilde clearly has a handle on Blues songs from the frantic ‘Trouble Of that Girl’ to ‘Gypsy Woman’ with its slow, walking Blues style and to the Chicago style of ‘Wild Man’.
All together, it is one of the freshest sounding and most classic Blues albums I’ve heard in the last couple of years.
If you dig harmonica, it is right up your alley and anyone who loves Blues should check this one out.
