CHAPPELL ROAN shows no signs of faltering or slowing down as she releases her latest masterpiece and first single of the year, titled ‘The Giver’.
There’s no warm up or steady slow launch, Roan’s newest song bursts in with energy from the off with a countdown turning in a sharp country fast paced riff.
“I have such a special place in my heart for country music,” Roan said in a press release. “The Giver’ is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all”, she added.
As her vocals enter they wash over you, she sounds absolutely impeccable. Chappell Roan has not just delivered, she’s back and better than ever, and I’m merely a few seconds in.
The chorus arrives filled to the brim with these lyrics packed with spice and seduction, there’s an air of teasing within her voice as she belts out “’Cause you ain’t got to tell me / It’s just in my nature / So take it like a taker, ’cause, baby, I’m a giver / Ain’t no need to hurry, ’cause, baby, I deliver”.
It feels like the same sort of subtle flirtation created by ‘Red Wine Supernova’ but this is a much more comfortable, confident Chappell Roan who after a year of complete and utter unprecedented success is finally getting her oats, and then some!
Each time we circle back the chorus it’s just the same feeling of a rush you can’t help but let it wash over you and it is magical. People like Roan are shining lights within the industry, unforgettable and unique success stories that no one saw coming and no one will ever forget.
My only tiny and miniscule critique here is that I wish she had included the ad lib from SNL, “All you country boys say you know how to treat a woman right / Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman right” – I think it would have just hammered home the songs narrative and shaped things nicely together, but without this, ‘The Giver’ is still a masterpiece and I’d argue one of her best songs yet.
In conclusion, the world is now awaiting her second album, and if this single is any indication of how things the next era of Chappell Roan is going to proceed it will be another year of surprises and successes for the Midwest Princess.
