Musician and composer Ashwin Gane is a boundary-pushing hip-hop artist, producer, and songwriter redefining the intersection of cinematic sound and storytelling. He first rose to fame as a record producer, with the song “Strong Enough” on the movie soundtrack for Devil's Night: Dawn of the Nain Rouge, before establishing himself as a solo artist.
Born in Detroit, home to the Eminem, Big Sean and Babyface Ray, Ashwin Gane is a first-generation Indian American, who seamlessly blends his cultural roots with modern hip-hop, creating a unique sonic experience that fuses symphonic orchestration with hard-hitting rap.
His latest offering to music is his single “Energy” a smooth, laid-back track about instant chemistry, attraction, and enjoying the moment. We caught up with Ashwin to get his insight into the new song just released.
Welcome Ashwin! Tell us briefly about your new song “Energy” “Energy” is quite simply playboy’s anthem, it’s all about attraction, confidence, and that effortless magnetism. You know that feeling when you walk into a room, and people are drawn to you, not because you’re trying, but because your presence just speaks for itself? That’s what this song captures. It’s smooth, laid-back, and hypnotic, with a flirty, confident energy that makes it perfect for late nights, cruising, or just feeling yourself.
What was the inspiration behind the song? The inspiration came from a few real life interactions. Given my career choice, I go to a lot of places, meet a lot of people, and something I hear all the time is, “I love your energy” or “I love your vibe.” It’s one of those phrases that stuck with me because it happened so often. That was certainly the first spark for the song. I suppose there’s something about energy, presence, and aura that plays a huge role in attraction, sometimes even more than words or looks.
The second part of the inspiration came from a feeling I think everyone can relate to—that moment where you wonder, “Are they into me?” Whether it’s a stranger, someone you just met, or even someone you’ve known for a while, there’s always that curiosity. Initially, I thought about making the song lean into that uncertainty, but as soon as I sat with the beat, I knew that wasn’t the right direction.
So really, Energy is a mix of real-life experiences and the mood of the instrumental shaping the creative direction. The song evolved from a simple observation into something much more confident and self-assured, all because of how the music itself felt. It’s about owning your presence, recognizing attraction, and stepping into that smooth, charismatic persona.
What can you tell us about the music video for the single? The video takes you through a full night in the life of this character. You see him getting ready because, of course, presentation is everything. Then you see him arrive at the club, moving through the scene with effortless cool, completely unbothered, like he owns the place. Inside, he’s lounging in luxury, surrounded by beautiful women, sipping on Hennessy, fully in his element. And then, of course, the night doesn’t end when the lights come on there’s always an afterparty, and that’s where things get even more intimate.
Visually, it’s bold, vibrant, and stylish, with deep blues, golden hues, and neon lighting that give it that high-end, nightlife feel. It has the energy of a 90s glam rap video: smooth, flashy, and larger than life but with a modern twist. Everything about it, from the wardrobe to the way the scenes are framed, plays into that world of effortless confidence and luxury.
Do you feel the song “Energy” is reminiscent of other music you have released? Yes, actually, if you’re looking for more songs like “Energy”, you’ll probably enjoy my “Got It” EP as well. The whole project is in the vein of Energy, which is to say smooth, laid-back, and fun vibes. It also carries that effortless playboy aesthetic for the majority of the track list.
