Me, I love a 3 piece band – so many great bands have been a ‘simple’ guitar/bass/drums lineup, and Jack J Hutchinson uses the format to lay down a terrific live sound.

Jack has been around for a fair while, but this is his first live album. It was recorded at the Grace in London and the Tuesday Night Music Club in Coulsdon earlier in the year and mixed at Superfly in Nottingham.
The lineup consists of Jack on guitar and vocals, Phil Wilson – Drums and percussion and Greg Smith – Bass. Between them they carry Jack’s songs to the audience with power and no little subtlety. Tracks such as ‘Don’t Let The F***ers Get You Down’ and ‘Overdrive’ are pretty power-trio naturals while ‘Love Is The Law’ shows a softer and Bluesier side of Hutchinson’s writing.

His song to his late father, ‘I Will Follow’ is beautifully played, emotional and intense, really showing he can step away from the rock on occasion.

‘Call Of The Wild’ closes the set, leaving the crowd wanting more.

There isn’t any filler here, 10 tracks that are all pretty well crowd pleasers – the recording captures the audience reaction pretty well.

Jack J Hutchinson is a natural Blues guitarist but his love of hard rock drives him to a stronger sound than many other Blues Rockers and gives him a pretty unique sound today.

Top stuff.
