Last night, America’s sweetheart Role Model made an appearance in Yorkshire, taking the O2 Academy in Leeds by storm with a phenomenal show.
The line-up was nothing short of stacked, with Role Model headlining and support from Chloe Slater.
Chloe skipped onto the stage, evoking a roar from the crowd — and the screaming only got louder as she launched into her first song of the night, “Tiny Screens.”
Her entire set brought exactly the kind of energy expected from a supporting act. It truly felt like watching a star rise before our eyes.
As the lights lowered and the band appeared, every pair of eyes was fixed on the stage, awaiting Tucker’s entrance. When Role Model finally graced the stage, the crowd went absolutely wild.
He kicked off his Yorkshire set with “Writing’s on the Wall,” and his voice was nothing short of angelic — even better than on record.
The crowd was a wonderful mix of ages: from the young girls gazing at their heartthrob, to chaperoning parents, and those in their mid-twenties relating to his lyrics about love, heartbreak, and the wine running out.
A cheeky moment came when a fan at the barrier gifted Role Model a “saintlaurentcowboy” hat, prompting him to flash his middle finger to the camera with a grin.
Tucker performed many tracks from his indie-pop, country-style catalogue, including “Look at That Woman,” “The Dinner,” and “Slipfast.” He also delivered a brilliant, unique cover of The 1975’s “Somebody Else.”
Throughout the evening, I have never seen a room so full of joy and happiness. There wasn’t a single person not smiling or singing along — it was pure bliss from every corner of the room.
Role Model’s fame has skyrocketed this year, especially through viral moments where he brings a celebrity or a fan on stage during “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.” Many Leeds fans spent the evening in suspense, wondering who tonight’s “Sally” might be.
When Tucker shouted, “Where’s my Sally tonight?” a fan appeared — dancing, bouncing, and bounding around the stage — and the crowd lapped up every delicious second of it.
The set closed with “Deeply Still in Love,” and I don’t think I was the only one who didn’t want it to end.
It was truly one of the most tremendous gigs I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending!
