Roses Kings Castles is the brainchild of Babyshambles drummer/DJ/Multi Instrumentalist Adam Ficek and as it turns out he’s actually a damn fine songwriter to boot. Expectation for a quality evening was obviously at full throttle as the secret launch gig at The Hideaway was positively rammed. But could Adam pull off something to remember him by or would the night thoroughly disappoint.
Good news. The set was choc full of timeless, thoughtful indie. Each song provoked a satisfied whoop from an entranced crowd. Now before you assume this is some empty, meaningless platitude ridden review, listen here! The set was genuinely beguiling. Get your listening lobes around 'Where's Your Life Gone' and you’ll totally understand what a magical night it was.
As I slipped out into a fresh London night, two thoughts struggled for dominance. Why don’t they let him write more Babyshambles tunes and when was the last time I’d seen a drummer side-project actually worth grinning about.
