Proving that 90s Britpop will never go out of fashion, The Bluetones sell out Edinburgh’s Bongo Club tonight as they prepare to unleash new album 'A New Athens’. Supporting The Bluetones this evening are Manchester-based act Married To The Sea. Married To The Sea portray a very beautiful opener to the show, with pretty faces and pretty tunes. These mellow-poppers do nothing less than charm the crowd with 'skanky’ chat, and leave the audience buzzing for the headlining act.
The Bluetones play new album 'A New Athens’ in its almost entirety tonight, but in amongst an hour and a half set, the previously unheard tracks are completely forgiven by those full time back-in-the-day singles fans. The boys play heaps of classics throughout the show, including tracks that are rarely performed live. The highlight of the evening is however, listening to the band perform another great album that will soon be added to their heaving pop discography.
The Bluetones prove again tonight why they should be labelled the hardest working band in pop: dancing through a ninety minute set jovially and enthusiastically. With yet another tour, and another new album, it’s hard to see the Bluetones slowing down, the only trouble is, will a new pop album from a big-in-the-nineties band catch on to a fanbase outside the loyal fans in the room tonight?
