The Lowriders are Colchester based four-piece band, and Fury is their debut album.
Nothing too spectacular about that, but check it out! It will take you back to the good old days when rock ‘n’ roll sounded as it was meant to sound (durrty!) and its musicians had an attitude (not to mention lifestyle) to match!
Fury is much like the title suggests, holding eleven tracks full of blazing energy and attitude. With a distinctive sound that’s percussion-driven and full of raw, distorted guitar and thumping bass, The Lowriders conjure up songs that at the same time have an actual melody to them.
‘Killer Day’ is one of the most awesome tracks on the album, with its slow, prophetic start that drifts into something resembling a drum-based rock version of a tribal chant… only to explode into killer riff-work throughout and with a great chorus.
While ‘Blood In My Hand’ offers more of a classic rock sound, ‘Big Moustache’ has a little funk ringing through in the base note, well, ever so slight. That’s great, as too many rock bands in this country still shy away from incorporating some blues or funk elements to their sound, instead churning out the same old predictable and polished fodder time and time again.
Title track ‘Fury’ – surprisingly perhaps – is not only relatively short but doesn’t sound half as as furious as some of the other tracks on the album. Oh well, it all depends on the content and the artists’ frame of mind I suppose.
The superbly and intriguingly titled ‘Icarus Sub’ has in fact a 60’s psychedelic rock feel to it, yeah, here’s a number to tune in and drop out to! ‘Who’s Gonna Save Your Soul’ is brilliant thanks to its backing vocals which compliment frontman Dave Garlick’s biting voice and lyrics. And it’s fast!
The band furthermore consists of Brian Ware on guitar, Jay Chamberlain on bass and Adam Parrot on drums. They may be called The Lowriders but if the debut album is anything to go by, then sooner rather then later they’ll be riding pretty high!
(Please note the album is available only as Download-format).
