For its ninth edition, the Brownstock festival did not fail to provide a variety of musical acts, various entertainments, tasty food and a homily atmosphere. The Pigeon Detectives and Tom Odell were Sunday's and Saturday's highlights.
Imagine a huge field but, instead of your average cows, there are hundreds and hundreds of families, friends and music lovers, all gathered in a friendly and welcoming ambiance. Add many shops, a variety of food, an epic musical programme and a massive paint fight and you can get a good idea of the Brownstock festival.
The Good Shed, set under a circus tent and nog an actual shed, was welcoming the official Comedy Club but also many DJ acts, including Mark Ronson, who made people dance Saturday evening and through he night.
With eight different stages and a great listing of artists, any visitor found a way to be satisfied. On s Sunday, there was a proper dry paint fighg organised: how fun and how random to witness many people, kids, youngs adults, less young adults all getting engaged in the game! It was 5 minutes of pure madness, in the best of ways.
One of the most original space was the Farm House: like a movie set, it was just a room decorated with retro furniture from early 20st century, sitting there in the open air.
Music wise, Tom Odell was certainly the highlight of Saturday, delivering a performance that moved the crowd of music lovers. He literally gave himself a 100 percent and left right after his gig, completely exhausted.
Sunday saw the cool and chilled performance of King Charles. His music is a mix between reggae and rock with a dash of Jamaican sounds. Then came Hadouken! and their electronic music: it sounds a bit like a younger Prodigy and got the fans going out of control, dancing and singing along.
The Pigeon Detectives took over and delivered such an energetic performance; they were Sunday's most impressive act. Matt Bowman, the lead singer, communicated his energy to the audience. He even did some acrobatic moves with his microphone. The Pigeon Detectives proved themselves to be real showmen.
The Fratellis closed three days of a tremendous festival. Next year's edition will mark the tenth anniversary of a small family festival that has grown to one of the most fun and must-go summer festivals. Well done and congratulations to the Brown family!
