Last Thursday saw music giant Tinie Tempah headline the iTunes Festival at Camden's famous spot, the Roundhouse and what a night it turned out to be!
The British rapper swung back and forth from much loved tracks from his 2010 double platinum LP 'Disc-Overy' to surprises from his highly-anticipated forthcoming album, 'Demonstration'.
Tinie burst on to the stage for a high-fueled performance of 'Frisky' with its legendary lyric, 'would you risk it for a chocolate biscuit?'. The cheeky and catchy lyrics combined with a blasting bass backdrop made it a powerful opening track. Green, amber and red coloured strobe lights zapped across the stage while fans went mad for Tinie.. clearly it was going to be a messy affair!
Tinie swiftly moved on to 'Don't Sell Out', the current promotional track with a video that shows him performing to an empty O2 arena, playing on the concept of 'selling out'. His collaborative tune, 'Till I'm Gone' with Wiz Khalifa had the crowd waving their hands from side to side while 'Wonderman' featuring fellow iTunes Festival headliner and pal Ellie Goulding, had people throwing W signs up in the air.
Tinie humbly told the crowd, 'last time I did this festival I was supporting Plan B', before moving on to critically acclaimed 'Children of the Sun', a new sentimental track with a rockier sound. He was joined on the stage by Swedish House Mafia affiliate John Martin who contributed his seamless vocals to the chorus.
'5 Minutes' was another brassy, heavy-bass track with a rough, pounding backdrop and electric guitars sounded throughout. The response was positive and lively from fans who had never heard it before. Gritty track 'Mosh Pitt' featuring Dizzee Rascal followed and was also received well.
Tinie then gave an endearing speech, mentioning that it was his manager, Dumi's birthday and hailed him as his 'cousin, manager and friend'. Dumi later joined him on stage and was presented with some cake and a shot of something hardcore. Now both on stage they exploded into a hot rendition of chart topping 'Trampoline'.
Tinie closed his set with carefree track 'Pass Out', the song that saw him reach huge chart success... it was an unforgettable performance.
With new material that sounds promising and an energy that is unbeatable we can't wait to see what Tinie's December tour has in store for us!
