Cheryl Cole has been told by husband Ashley her mother must move out of their home if their marriage is to survive.

The England soccer star - who cheated on the Girls Aloud beauty with three different women - wants Joan Tweedy to return to her native Newcastle to give the struggling couple space to work through their problems.

Ashley and Cheryl both want a fresh start and are looking to buy a new house and see Joan - who has lived with them since they married in 2006 - permanently moving out as the perfect opportunity.

A source told Britain's Closer magazine: "Ashley told Cheryl she could have a new house, but Joan would have to go. Ashley felt pushed into the move, so he thought he could at least have one thing his way.

"Cheryl understands Ashley's needs and thinks being alone will help them patch things up." The couple are also said to be considering starting a family together, and think Joan leaving will help them achieve this.

The source added: "Cheryl wants to have kids with Ashley, and Ashley told Joan that if she left them alone, she'd have more chance of becoming a grandmother. "They want to do things together without having to tell somewhere where they are. After all their troubles, they just need space."
