Billy Idol has been named the keynote speaker at the upcoming 3rd Annual CBGB Music & Film Festival in New York.
Along with dozens of concerts and film presentations, the CBGB Festival also includes talks and discussions by industry figures and artists in a number of types of media.
On October 8, producer Daniel Lanois will show clips and discuss his work while premiering selections from his upcoming film Flesh and Machine…The Films. Also that evening, DJ Dirty South will screen With You, a short film that accompanies his upcoming album of the same name.
Idol’s keynote interview occurs on October 9 at the CBGB Festival Headquarters with Billy Idol who will follow the talk with a short acoustic concert. Idol releases his autobiography, Dancing With Myself, on 10/7 and his first album in almost a decade, Kings & Queens of the Underground on 10/21.
A series of music talks occur on October 10 with:
– Galadrielle Allman, author of the book Please Be With Me, A Song For My Father, Duane Allman
– Erin Davis (son of Miles Davis) and Vince Wilburn, Jr. (nephew of Davis) discussing the film Miles Ahead
– Stephen Trask, composer of Hedwig and the Angry Inch
– Michael Alago, A&R man who signed, among others, Metallica and White Zombie
– Duff McKagan, founding member of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver
Finally, on October 11, The School of Rock will salute CBGB with students from eight New York and New Jersey schools playing the music of the artists that made the club famous.
Among the artists playing during the Festival are Jane’s Addiction, Devo, Macy Gray, Robert DeLong and We Are Scientists.
