Calvin Harris has reportedly decided not to release any more albums.
The 32-year-old superstar DJ released his debut album I Created Disco in 2007, before following it with Ready for the Weekend in 2009, 18 Months in 2012 and Motion in 2014.
However, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper, Calvin is going to leave his back catalogue there, and instead will capitalise on the popularity of music streaming by releasing his songs as soon as they are ready.
"Calvin has always been a forward-thinker and believes just releasing singles is the way forward," a source told the publication. "Albums don’t sell how they used to and artists are now seeing streaming as the future. Albums are time-consuming and limit artists to cycles rather than having a persistent presence in the charts.
"Calvin is one of the most-streamed artists in the world so it would make sense to exploit that success."
The DJ is certainly no stranger to having hit singles on streaming sites such as Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal, and in 2014 he became the first British musician to reach one billion streams on Spotify.
Since then, hits such as Summer and This Is What You Came For, as well as his former relationship with Taylor Swift, have increased his profile both in and out of the music field. His success on sites like Spotify has therefore increased, and will have a knock on effect on the royalties he receives.
Calvin's move may also be seen by some as a slight to ex-girlfriend Taylor, who famously pulled her music from Spotify in 2014 in protest of the advert-supported, free model.
“It didn't feel right to me,” she explained to Yahoo! Music. “I felt like I was saying to my fans, 'If you create music someday, if you create a painting someday, someone can just walk into a museum, take it off the wall, rip off a corner off it, and it's theirs now and they don't have to pay for it.'”
