"FREEDOM IS OVERRATED" is a new single from the upcoming self-titled debut album by The Third Man (Reese Hogg III), which is an independent project scheduled for release in late 2018.
This piece covers the topics of social justice including racial discrimination, child abuse, world domination, violence, child hunger, school shootings, corruption and civil rights. Reese wrote this song following the 2017 death of his son, Malik Mallett, who was fatally stabbed by a killer on July 30, 2017. Malik's killer claimed self-defense and was released by police without an arrest or trial. The total performance time of the track is 7 minutes and 30 seconds in memorial of Malik's passing on July 30, 2017.
Additionally, “FREEDOM IS OVERRATED” is a response to the violent epidemic of school shootings in the United States like the one in Parkland, FL (2018) and others around the country, which has served to ignite the heated gun control debate further.
The subjects of police brutality and gang violence also appear in the message of this song. With the killing of Tamir Rice and many other unarmed African American men, women and children it is evident that police brutality is a problem that needs to be addressed along with gang violence if justice will prevail in America.
Cellist Jes Burgess joins Reese on this record. Both Jes and Reese oppose injustices of all kinds around the world and commit all proceeds from the sales of this single to fight for social justice around the world.
