Cher has joked her youthful look on film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was down to the "five pounds of make-up" she wore while in character.

The pop superstar joined the cast of the musical sequel, which features ABBA hits, as Ruby Sheridan, the mother of Meryl Streep's Donna, alongside returning castmembers such as Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, and Pierce Brosnan.
And in an interview with British magazine Attitude for its October issue, the 72-year-old pop icon jokingly shared her secret to how she looked so youthful in the movie.

"Make-up. Five pounds of make-up," she teased.

"Also the director really liked me, and I think he took extra special care to light me. That has a lot to do with it. He was wonderful," she added, praising director Ol Parker, who is married to actress Thandie Newton.

Cher previously admitted she was nervous about joining the hit film franchise, which saw her reunited with Meryl, her co-star in her very first movie Silkwood. But according to Meryl, she stole the show on the first day with her rendition of Fernando.

However, Cher hasn't actually watched the movie yet.

"I didn't really see the whole movie because I'm not quite ready," she confessed to the publication. "And I will see it at some point. I don't really love seeing my movies right away."

As well as her appearance in Mamma Mia!, Cher is about to release a new album of ABBA covers, Dancing Queen, and admitted that while she found the project fun to do, she found some of the songs quite challenging to sing.

"ABBA songs are a lot harder to sing than one might imagine," she admitted. "They're much more intricate, they're much more substantive."
