Australia’s Independent Music Awards have been announced for 2015 with Courtney Barnett taking away four awards including one for her label Milk! Records.
Barnett won the awards Best Independent Artist, Best Independent Album and Best Independent Single or EP while the label she founded to release her own music, Milk! Records, won Best Independent Label.

John Butler was a surprise addition to the line-up. performing his 2007 AIR Award winning ‘Better Than.There were also performances from Brisbane’s Airling, opening with there single ‘Stallin’ as well as Bad//Dreems, Dead Letter Circus and very, very impressive Harts.

Murray Cook of The Wiggles gave an honest and heartfelt appraisal of the music business telling artists to follow their passion. Cook advised to hang-on to your publishing and stay as indie as possible. Murray reminded the audience that to this day The Wiggles have remained an independent act.

Former AIR Executive Officer and now Federal Member of Parliament, Julie Owens, spoke about 20 years of AIR, and how an idea became the voice on independent music in Australia. She also took credit for the logo. “I can’t believe they haven’t changed it,” she said.
