Mumford & Sons are celebrating their first number one single, in a collaboration with Baaba Maal and The Very Best.
'There Will Be Time' was released in South Africa last Friday to coincide with the band’s historic sold-out debut shows in the country. It shot straight to number 1 upon release.
Recorded at Eastcote Studios, London in September 2015, the exclusive-to-South Africa single follows the number 1 success of Mumford & Sons’ third album 'Wilder Mind' in the country last year too.
The three artists have since debuted the track live at their trio of Cape Town shows and Durban.
This collaboration is the first time that all three artists have worked together in the studio. The band were introduced to acclaimed Senegalese musician Baaba Maal by The Very Best’s Johan back in 2013, and Winston Marshall performed at Maal’s Blues Du Fleuve Festival in Senegal later that year. A friendship and mutual respect quickly grew, which led to the musicians all spending some writing time together following the release of Mumford & Sons’ third album, Wilder Mind, last year.
'There Will Be Time' is a beautiful explosion of styles that builds, weaves and drives in spectacular fashion. It yields a sound both typically intimate, but sonically adventurous too. It will be made available to purchase across the globe in the Spring.
Mumford & Sons, Baaba Maal, and The Very Best are currently enjoying a couple of days downtime in the studio working on more material together before the tour concludes with two sold-out dates at Pretoria’s Monument Amphitheatre this weekend.
All 85,000 tickets for the six live shows sold out in minutes, heralding one of the most widely talked about South African tours in living memory.
