Alejandro Fuentes, a Top 10 finalist on La Vox (The Voice) in Mexico in 2011, has died after being shot in the head in Chicago in Thursday night. He died on Saturday.

Fuentes was in his car when a man walked up and ordered him to get out. When he refused, he was shot three times.

Alejandro Fuentes was the principal of Tras Bambalinas, a Chicago school for young performers. The shooting happened outside the school at 4300 block of South Archer in the city’s Brighton Park neighborhood.

Witnesses told police that the killing seemed premeditated and that the killer had been waiting for Fuentes to finish work and come out to his car. His assistant was also in the car but not hurt. The gunman fled after firing the shots. He has so far not been caught.

Fuentes was celebrating his 45th birthday the day he was shot.

Last week The Voice US finalist Christina Grimmie was shot dead after her show in Florida.
