Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney reportedly split after the singer’s Hollywood ambitions put a strain on their relationship.
Gaga, who won a Golden Globe in January 2016 for her first starring role on television, in American Horror Story: Hotel, and the 35-year-old Chicago Fire actor got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2015.
They recently announced they were “taking a break” after five years together.
Sources close to the high profile couple claim Gaga changing focus from music to acting created issues the couple couldn’t overcome.
“The bottom line is that they don’t see eye to eye on the future,” a source told Heat magazine. “She broke up with him. Probably the biggest factor is Gaga’s new career.”
The insider claims Gaga’s friends think she’s changed, and now that she’s longer intent on being the outrageous pop star she’s “gone Hollywood.”
News of the couple’s split came after they previously revealed their summer wedding had been postponed, with the source saying Gaga put the brakes on the wedding for a film role.
“Gaga put the wedding on hold after Bradley Cooper approached her to appear in the film, and Taylor feels left behind,” they explained. “He would try to give her advice about the industry and she resented it. She feels she’s a Golden Globe-winning actress in her own right, and doesn’t need his help.”
In a statement the 30-year-old posted on Instagram, Gaga declared Taylor her “soulmate” and admitted she and her former fiance are “both ambitious artists” who, like most couples, have had their ups and downs.
But she added they’re hoping to work through “long-distance" and “complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared.”
However, at present it seems Taylor’s plans for a low-key family life away from Hollywood have been put on hold.
“Taylor is older and keen and to start a family. He bought a secluded house in his hometown of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 2013, and he wanted them to live there,” the insider said. “But Gaga is a city girl and loves hanging out at her house in Malibu. She’s not ready to give all that up.”
