Kerrang! were lucky enough to sit down with Green Day ahead of their massive comeback this summer. The band spoke about everything from their excitement to be back, Mike’s wife’s battle with breast cancer and the current state of US politics. Unsurprisingly, they are not fans of Trump.
Billie Joe on Trump… He [Trump] just said, ‘You have no options and I’m the only one, and I’m going to take care of it myself.’ I don’t even know how else to explain it. I wish I were over-exaggerating. And sometimes maybe I do over-exaggerate with Bush. But with Trump, I just can’t wait ’til he’s gone.
Billie Joe on Trump supporters… The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are, I actually feel bad for them, because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up. They’re p*ssed off and he’s preyed on their anger.
Mike on his wife’s battle with cancer… For a little while there I went on hiatus because my wife went through breast cancer treatment. That was about eight or nine months of a hiatus, which we’re glad we’re on the other end of that. And no-one’s happier to see us get back on tour and working than my wife!
Billie on what’s next… We want to go on tour so f*cking bad, like we haven’t for years. We’re stoked and we’re really excited by the record. It’s great, it’s Green Day at our best and I don’t really know any other way to put it.
