Cher fears for the safety of the gay community if Republican candidate Donald Trump wins the upcoming presidential race.

The 70-year-old singer is an outspoken critic of the billionaire real estate mogul turned politician, and made her feelings for Trump known at a rally for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Cher appeared in a video to introduce Clinton to the stage at the private fundraiser on Sunday (21Aug16) in Provincetown, Massachusetts - a New England town where there is a large gay community.

"I'm here for multiple reasons, but I'm here one, out of love, and one, out of fear," she told the audience. "Because, I'm so frightened for what's going to happen to this particular community. I know there's going to be other people, other minorities that are going to be totally screwed as well, but I honestly fear for your safety."

Cher, who said she believes Clinton is "genuine," earned cheers for her comment that "this chick is tougher than Chinese algebra."

The Believe hit maker also spoke of Trump's running mate Mike Pence and his previous opposition to lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and transgender (LGBQT) rights.

"I fear for you, because I know what they will try to do - they will try to turn back every clock, they will try to take back every one of your rights," she said of the Republican duo.

She claimed the Republican nominee doesn't actually want to be president, and even compared Trump and Pence to the 1977 comedy movie Fun with Dick and Jane.

"He wants the adulation, he doesn't give a s**t about the work," she told the crowd in the video posted by an audience member on Facebook. "Do you remember Fun with Dick and Jane? It's like a racist Fun with Dick and Jane! He doesn't mean we want to 'Make America Great Again.' He means: 'We want to make America straight and white'. He just says the weirdest s**t..."

Summing up her thoughts on the businessman, Cher said bluntly, "I just think he's a f***ing idiot. I just wish he would fall off the face of the Earth."
