Defined as “a total celebration of what Camden is all about as the creative hub of the UK music scene”, Camden Rocks Festival is the biggest and best value multi-venue all-day music event of the UK festival calendar, and this year it’s set to become even bigger: with over 250 acts, the number of venues confirmed to host the event is now 25, including the likes of Dingwalls, Underworld, Electric Ballroom and Koko - for the first time ever.
Headliners for the 2017 edition include the likes of FEEDER, The Coral, The Damned, Milburn, The Rifles, Reverend and The Makers, Carl Barat & The Jackals and many more, as well as some of the finest up and coming new acts from all over the UK.
In the own words of festival organiser Chris McCormack, who is responsible for scouting new talent to showcase at Camden Rocks through Camden’s best club nights and Camden Rocks Presents in particular: “So many great bands have cut their teeth here and it’s a pleasure to continue to fly the flag high for new, up and coming bands alongside the big names each year.”
The festival has previously hosted performances from now chart-topping acts of the likes of The Cribs, Funeral For A Friend, Bullet For My Valentine, Creeper, Slaves, Yuck, Heck, Billy Bragg, Ginger Wildheart, Gnarwolves and many more, proving itself to be a valid springboard for the freshest and best new talents.
Here are our top 5 up and coming acts not to miss on the day:
1. Fizzy Blood
Originally from Leeds, the band has been described as “born from ambition, determination and resilience”. Their refreshing musical bravery has seen them shed any traces of the generic with their own brand of retro inspired rock, combined with a modern songwriting ethos. Their influences include Queens Of The Stone Age and Pulled Apart By Horses.

2. Rival Karma
Hailing from London, made of heavy guitars and groovy basslines, Rival Karma’s sound evokes London’s rainy days as much as the rauchiness in American Rock. The band recently released their latest single, ‘Scream’.

3. Millie Manders and the Shutup
Based in London, Millie is known for her raw punk fused with a huge amount of pop appeal. Her unique lyrics poke fun, draw you in or leave you questioning social norms and are teamed with incredible vocal dexterity, grinding guitars, irresistible horn hooks and a pumping rhythm section.
For anyone who has ever had an over possessive partner, or has been one, here's "Teddy"... Video by Insurgent Films I'm squeezing so hard there's no pretending I popped the stuffing on my favourite teddy I'm so possessive you're going crazy I popped the stuffing on my favourite teddy....
4. Sisteray
Citing bands such as Velvet Underground, The Replacements, The Smiths and The Clash amongst their main influences, the band combines high-octane performances with upbeat melodies and lyrical observations of 21st century Britain. The band’s belief and passion in their music, as well as their strong political views and criticism has been seldom seen since the days of The Clash.

5. Chinese Missy
As a heavy guitar band that combines trashy and raw rock’n’roll with a smattering of political comment, Chinese Missy are guaranteed to make both your mind and feet move. They describe themselves as the musical child that Marc Bolan and Joe Strummer might have fathered.
