LA's The Icarus Line strutted onto the stage attired in their usual black and red garb to warm the crowd for the night's main act. The Hammersmith Apollo was far from full, most of the Primal Scream fans stuck five deep at the Carling bar. Undeterred, vocalist Joey Cardamone led the band onwards and the familiar wall of sound hit the unsuspecting audience. Aaron North seemed unusually motionless at first but as the audience slowly grew larger he seemed to grow stronger. Soon he was firing on all cylinders with the band cruising at breakneck speed, at one point his legs erect above him whilst sprawled across his amp. Before long -- the band that got their name from a semi-transvestite prostitute called 'Icarus' whose services were so good there would often be a line coming from the alley where he plied his trade –- left the stage taking a few more fans with them. Punk rock is not dead.
The limited edition single 'Up Against The Wall Motherfuckers' is released on Feb 23rd, the album, 'Pennance Soiree' in April.
