Big Boy Bloater has been ‘on the scene’ for a number of years and he has a stellar reputation as a live act.
This was a launch gig for his new album ‘Luxury Hobo’ and so the Underbelly was fairly packed out with industry insiders, writers and photographers – a tough crowd but completely won over by a brilliant performance from the main man and his LiMiTs.
Almost all the material was from the new album, kicking off with a sublime ‘Devils Not Angels’ and moving into the standout number from the album ‘It Came Outta The Swamp’.
The band were settling down and enjoying themselves on the cramped stage and the new songs really kicked ass live, even hotter than on the album and with Bloater’s guitar lines flowing and burning like kerosene.
‘Luxury Hobo’ itself had real passion behind the words and Bloater’s voice sounded as though he was really feeling the number and ‘I Got The Feeling Someone’s Watching Me’ had real menace in it.
They finished with ‘Leonard Cohen’ played at almost a punk pace.
The band really are all they are cracked up to be and well worth catching live – they will be touring in May:
