Josh Turner fans have been waiting an extremely long time for his sixth studio album, Deep South. Having teased the release of the record two years after his fifth album, Punching Bag, with the single Lay Low, everything suddenly went quiet in his camp until Hometown Girl in the summer of 2016. More than six months later the album finally arrives, boasting 11 tracks - many penned or co-penned by Turner - but with many fans speculating the album is no different to the one touted for release all those years ago. So the big question is, will the record itself live up to the long wait?

Having already topped the US country charts with the album, it is clear that the fans were hungry for more, and thankfully what Turner delivers is worthy of the rush to the record store to purchase it. With his back catalogue having demonstrated a real growth as an artist with each release, it is fair to say that his sixth outing is his strongest to date.

Unsurprisingly for an album titled Deep South, this is a collection that celebrates everything that it means to be southern in the USA, however, for those that can't relate to the subject matter, there are plenty of love-driven sing-alongs to enjoy.

With Where The Girls Are proving the stand-out in the collection, both for it's infectious appeal and it's radio friendly readiness, it is the songs that celebrate the south that shine the brightest, with Southern Drawl joining the title track as other notable highlights.

However, if you are all about the simple, straight-up love song, we suggest you skip straight to All About You and Never Had A Reason To, for they will not disappoint. Yet it is on the break-up driven Wonder that Turner takes his balladry to new heights.

His fans may have had to wait an extra couple of years for the release, but they will not be disappointed. Deep South digs deep and delivers musical gold.
