Poledancing, free drinks and cracking tunes; what more could you ask of a Monday evening? Rising stars Dragonette proved themselves to be the perfect hosts at their burlesque showcase at the Institute of Contemporary Arts.
After lubricating the crowd with sea-breezes and whetting our appetite with some, ahem, 'performers’, Dragonette took to the stage. Their storming brand of electro-pop is somewhat nostalgic, reminiscent of a wonderfully exclusive 80s party.
Dragonette are a stylish bunch. The boys looked fabulous in dapper suits, while lead singer Martina was sex incarnate in skin-tight PVC and fishnets. Their tunes were effortlessly danceable, infused with a pop energy perfectly suited to the larger venue.
Star of the show is undoubtedly Martina, her onstage confidence unmatched even by the professional entertainers. Strutting around the boys, she exuded charisma. Gwen Stefani had better watch her back, as Martina is a pop princess you’d actually want to party with.
